We are serious about operating in the most sustainable way we can, it is vital that we not only do our part to reduce the negative effect our business has on our planet, but to do good in the world too. Traditional coffee packaging is complicated or not possible to recycle and therefore often ends up in landfill. We don't want you to be lumped with hard to dispose of packaging and feel it is our job to make it easy for you to dispose of the bags in which our coffee comes. We have chosen to switch to packaging which can either be conveniently recycled or even better, is 100% biodegradable.
Our refill pouches are 100% biodegradable, plastic-free and break down into nothing more than water, CO2 and biomass. So however you dispose of them (responsibly please), they will leave no harmful trace. So put them in your food waste bin, your home compost, or just in your regular bin and you can be sure that in time (around a year), they will be entirely gone.
These pouches contain 125 grams of coffee which, depending on how you brew, will make around 8 cups of coffee. We have found from experience that it is better to store the coffee sealed in smaller individual pouches than to use one larger bag with a resealable top. We suggest you empty the pouch into an airtight container to keep it fresh. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, an empty (clean) jam jar will do, or just fold down the top of the pouch and clip on a clothes peg.
You will notice that our refill pouches do not have a one way valve which you are probably used to seeing on coffee bags. These valves are often stated to keep the coffee fresh, when in fact they are mainly to let the CO2 released by the coffee during resting out of the bag to prevent it from puffing up during storage or display on shop shelves. The gas the valves let out is the CO2 which is naturally released by the coffee and is full of aroma and the volatile compounds which give the coffee its character. As we do not store or display our coffee (we just send it straight to you), it doesn't matter if the bags puff up a little.
